Made from unroasted Cacao beans, leaving all active substances still present. This minimally processed Cacao is ethically sourced from Peru.

Theobroma cacao

Cacao (Theobroma cacao), the “food of the Gods”, has its roots in South American cultures. The Maya and Aztecs regarded Cacao as a sacred plant and even used Cacao beans as currency. During the 17th century, it was introduced to Europe by the Spaniards.

This Cacao paste from the Peruvian Amazon is made from the finest native Criollo beans, farmed without chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides, and cold processed in raw food quality. No hybrid cacao is used, only the wildcrafted Criollo beans. The native Cacao is cultivated from small farmers that grow Cacao in sustainable agriculture techniques, protecting the rainforest and environment. The production and trading methods of all farmers and purchasers involved meet international fair trade standards.

What is the difference between raw cacao paste and regular chocolate?

Raw cacao paste is made from unroasted cacao beans that are cold-processed, preserving all natural compounds like antioxidants and minerals. Regular chocolate is roasted at high temperatures and contains added sugar, milk, and emulsifiers. This Peruvian Criollo paste is 100% pure cacao mass without any additives. Read the full story in our blog about the difference between raw cacao and chocolate.

How much cacao paste do you need per ceremony?

For a full ceremonial experience, use 20 to 40 grams per person. Cut or grate the desired amount from the block and melt it slowly in warm water or plant-based milk. Start with a lower dosage if you are new to ceremonial cacao and gradually increase. A 500-gram block provides 12 to 25 ceremonial portions.

Why choose Criollo cacao from Peru?

Criollo is the rarest and most refined cacao variety in the world, with a complex flavor profile of deep chocolate, subtle fruitiness, and a creamy texture. This specific cacao from the Peruvian Amazon is wild-harvested from native Criollo trees and cold-processed to raw food quality. Discover how raw cacao is processed in our blog about the production process.
