Magic Mushroom Spores

Discover the Origin of Psilocybe Mushrooms

If you're seeking the purest starting point for working with magic mushrooms, everything begins with spores. These microscopic units contain the full genetic blueprint of a mushroom and represent the first step in any cultivation or research project. At Next Level Smart, we offer two forms of high-quality spores: spore prints and culture ampoules.

Spore Prints vs. Culture Ampoules

A spore print is an imprint of millions of spores on sterile foil, collected directly from a mature mushroom. Spore prints are ideal for microscopy, taxonomic research, and agar-based work. They provide direct access to a strain's original genetics and remain viable for extended periods when stored in cool, dry conditions.

A culture ampoule contains active liquid mycelium in a sterile solution. This offers a more direct method of substrate inoculation, with faster colonization and lower contamination risk compared to traditional spore methods. Culture ampoules are particularly well suited for growers seeking efficiency and reliability.

Available Strains

Our collection features three popular Psilocybe Cubensis strains, each with its own distinct character:

  • Golden Teacher — the most well-known and stable strain, valued for its reliable genetics and clear spore structure.
  • McKennaii — named after Terence McKenna, recognised for rapid colonization and dynamic mycelium behaviour.
  • Mazatapec — a traditional Mexican strain with slower but exceptionally strong and resilient growth.

Storage and Shelf Life

Always store spore prints and culture ampoules in a cool, dry, and dark location. Spore prints remain usable for months to years when stored correctly. Culture ampoules have a shorter shelf life and are best used as soon as possible after delivery for optimal results.

What is the difference between a spore print and a culture ampoule?

A spore print is an impression of Psilocybe cubensis spores on foil, suitable for microscopy and advanced cultivation techniques. A culture ampoule contains spores in a sterile liquid, ideal for inoculating substrates.

Are mushroom spores legal?

Yes, Psilocybe cubensis spores are legal in the Netherlands and most European countries. Spores themselves do not contain psilocybin — this compound is only produced during mycelium growth.

Which spores are suitable for beginners?

Golden Teacher and B+ spores are the most forgiving: they colonise quickly, are resistant to minor mistakes and produce reliable mycelium under varying conditions. For those who prefer a ready-to-use solution without advanced cultivation techniques, we recommend our mushroom grow kits with fully colonised substrate.
