CBD in Food: Top 5 Tips in Cooking with CBD (+ Recipes)

Tip Nr 1 – CBD and Heat Don’t Go Well Together

For people who have never cooked with CBD oil, it may be easy to assume that it can be used just as regular cooking oil, however, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. While technically it can be done, it would be highly recommended to not heat it over 160-170 degrees Celsius as heat not only burns off the effects of CBD but also makes it taste bitter.

If you want to stay on the safe side, it would be best to incorporate CBD in foods and recipes that don’t require heating. However, If you do want to cook warm meals with it, we would recommend adding CBD oil on top of your food a minute or two after the food gets taken off the pan, or working it into, let’s say, a cake frosting that goes on top of the cake after baking rather than incorporating it into the batter itself.

Tip Nr 2 – A Little Goes a Long Way

Everyone responds differently to CBD. If you do not know the right dosage for you, it is best to start with 10-15mg per day during your first week of using it, and slowly increase the dosage if the effects cannot be felt or experienced. Most people take CBD to reduce their anxiety, improve sleep, or relieve pain. Whatever your reason is, observe the effects, and slowly build up the dosage until you feel that it is working for you.

In this way, you will also avoid overusing this rather pricey product, and save yourself some money while you work out the perfect dosage for you.

Tip Nr 3 – Incorporate Healthy Fats

Most CBD oils on the market are fat-soluble, which means that CBD will be best absorbed by your body when combined with a carrier, like olive, coconut, or avocado oil, or butter. To take full advantage of CBD effects, try combining it with foods that contain healthy fat or grease.

If you wish, you could even make CBD butter. Just remember to use very low heat to preserve vital compounds necessary for the full CBD effects.

Tip Nr 4 – Be Patient With The Effects

When using CBD in food, it can take longer to start to notice the effects as it will take some time for the CBD to go through the digestive tract and be processed by the liver before it enters the bloodstream. Therefore, using your CBD in food may not be as quick-acting as putting some drops under your tongue, however, your body will absorb it much better in combining it with food. Experiment with the dosage and find what works best for you in the long run; stay curious and patient!

Tip Nr 5 – Choose The Right CBD Oil

With so many manufacturers, it can be overwhelming to choose the best product for yourself. It’s important to keep in mind both quality and price, as well as the potency of CBD oil.

Most often CBD oil is between 5% and 10% CBD. A 10% oil will have 2x more the amount of CBD than the 5%, and it will most likely be more expensive. However, with 10%, you will need fewer drops to get the same desired effect. To begin with, you can choose either of the products and take the lowest recommended dose to observe the effects and increase the dosage over time if needed.
