Traditional Tibetan Incense - Authentic Himalayan Herbal Mix

This incense has no wooden stick as core. It's literally compressed herbs formed into a solid stick. That makes a huge difference in what you smell during burning - you get only the scent of the herbs, without wood smoke underneath. For some, that's clearer, cleaner.

The production is labor-intensive. Herbs are dried, ground into powder, mixed with natural binding agents and water, kneaded into a paste, and then hand-rolled into sticks. These must then dry for weeks before they can be used. The result is fragile - handle them carefully.

What's in it? Traditional Tibetan herbs whose exact composition varies by producer. Some use lots of juniper, others focus on medicinal plants like artemisia or cypress. The scent is green, herbal, sometimes slightly bitter. It doesn't smell sweet or floral - more like a walk through mountain meadows.

Key Features: Without wooden core - 100% herbs. Traditional Tibetan composition. No wood smoke during burning. Handmade and slowly dried. Suitable for indoor and outdoor.

Difference from regular incense

With regular incense, a wooden stick always burns along. That provides structure, but also adds its own scent. With this herbal incense everything burns up - you have no remnant left. The scent is more intense because it's more concentrated, but also shorter because a stick burns faster (15-25 minutes instead of 30-45).

Outdoors this incense works particularly well. The wind disperses the smoke directly, and the herbal scent mixes with outside air in a way that doesn't work indoors. Tibetans use this type of incense for outdoor ceremonies, at mountain passes, at sacred places.

Use and Dosage

Handle the sticks carefully - they break more easily than incense with wooden core. Light only the tip and let it burn for a few seconds before blowing out. Place in a sturdy holder on heat-resistant surface. Indoors: ensure ventilation, the smoke is more intense. Outdoors: plant the stick firmly in sand or soil, or use a heavy holder that won't blow over. One stick burns 15-25 minutes.

Why does this Tibetan incense have no wooden core?

Traditional Tibetan herbal incense is made entirely from compressed herbs, natural resins and binding agents without a bamboo or wooden stick at the centre. This means you smell only the herbs themselves during burning, with no wood smoke underneath. The result is a purer, more concentrated herbal fragrance. The trade-off is that the sticks are more fragile and burn faster (15 to 25 minutes versus 30 to 45 for wood-core incense), so handle them with care.

Can I burn coreless Tibetan herbal incense outdoors?

Yes, and it actually works exceptionally well outdoors. The wind disperses the smoke directly and the herbal scent mixes with open air in a way that creates a beautiful aromatic experience. Tibetans traditionally use this type of incense for outdoor ceremonies at mountain passes and sacred sites. Plant the stick firmly in sand or soil, or use a heavy holder that will not blow over. Each box contains approximately 25 to 30 sticks, so you have plenty for outdoor rituals. Explore different types in our incense guide.

How should I store coreless herbal incense sticks?

Because these sticks have no wooden core, they are more fragile than standard incense. Store them flat in their original box or a dry container, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Avoid stacking heavy items on top as they can snap easily. Keep them at room temperature in a dry environment. Properly stored, the sticks retain their herbal potency for well over a year. If a stick does break, you can still burn the pieces individually in a holder or on a heat-resistant dish.
