Magic Truffles by Strength: From Gentle to Strongest

Last updated: June 2026
This guide is reviewed regularly with the current truffle strains in our range.

Not every magic truffle is equally strong. There is a world of difference between the gentle Mexicana and the hefty High Hawaiians, and that strength largely shapes how your session unfolds. Yet the strains are rarely lined up from light to heavy. So that is exactly what we do here: from the mildest truffles for a first encounter to the most powerful for those who know precisely what they are doing.

Want to know first what magic truffles actually are and how to take them? Start with our full truffle guide. Everything below revolves around one thing: strength, and which one suits you.

Different magic truffles ranked by strength

Why one truffle is stronger than another

Magic truffles are sclerotia: dense lumps that certain psilocybe species form underground. How strong they are depends on how much psilocybin and psilocin they hold, and that varies by strain. A Mexicana naturally contains less active compound than a High Hawaiians, so the same amount feels very different. The active compounds are psilocybin and psilocin; after intake your body converts psilocybin into the active psilocin. The more a strain contains, the stronger the effect.

Two things to keep in mind. Strength shifts slightly from harvest to harvest, so treat the grouping below as a direction rather than an exact measure. And fresh truffles are milder per gram than dried ones, simply because they still contain water. We sell fresh truffles, which is what the descriptions below assume.

The truffle strength scale: from gentle to strongest

We sort our truffles into four strength groups. For each group you will find a few well-known examples, the character of the experience and who they suit.

Group Examples Character Suited to
Gentle Mexicana, Atlantis Light, clear, easy to follow A first encounter
Balanced Mushrocks, Utopia More visual and emotional Those with some experience
Strong Nirvana, Shambhala, Dragon's Dynamite Deeply visual and introspective Experienced users
Strongest High Hawaiians Intense, can overwhelm Very experienced users only

Strength varies slightly per harvest. Each product page lists the current strength indication for that strain.

Magic truffle strains from mild to strong

The strains, from gentle to strongest

Gentle: an easy introduction

The gentle strains are the logical place to start. Our Mexicana is the classic among the mild truffles: light, clear and easy to follow. The Atlantis sits in the same gentle corner, with a grounding, calm tone. Enough to feel what truffles do, without it catching you off guard. The visuals stay soft, the mood usually light and open, and you keep the sense that you are in charge.

Balanced: a step further

If you have worked with truffles before, the balanced strains add depth. Mushrocks is known as the even-keeled middle ground, and the Utopia from our own range edges towards the strong end. Colours and patterns grow livelier, thoughts flow more freely and emotions move closer, while the whole stays comfortably manageable.

Strong: for the experienced user

In the strong group the experience turns more intense and inward. Nirvana and Shambhala are known for their deep, introspective tone, while Dragon's Dynamite lives up to its name with a hefty visual charge. Expect strong visuals, a deeper sense of letting go and moments where your sense of time blurs. Strains for those who know the basics well and are deliberately after something deeper.

Strongest: only with experience

At the top of the scale sits High Hawaiians, our most powerful truffle. The experience can be deep and overwhelming, so this strain is genuinely meant for people with plenty of experience who know how to build an intense session. Just starting out? Leave this one for later.

Strength and amount: how they work together

Strength never stands alone. What you ultimately feel is the interplay of the strain and the amount you take. A small portion of a strong truffle can feel as light as a larger portion of a mild one, and the other way around. That is why the choice of strain is your first and most important dial: it sets the range you move within.

If you like to keep some margin, a mild to balanced strain is the comfortable pick. The gap between too little and too much is wider, so a small misjudgement in the amount matters less. Choose a strong strain and you will want to weigh more precisely and build up slowly. We deliberately leave exact amounts open here; for that, turn to our truffle guide.

Which strength fits your experience?

Choosing the right truffle mostly comes down to being honest about where you stand.

  • First time: pick a gentle strain and keep the amount modest. A calm, familiar setting does at least as much as the choice of strain.
  • Some experience: a balanced strain adds depth without going straight to the deep end.
  • Experienced: the strong and strongest strains belong to those who know their own reactions well.
  • Prefer sub-perceptual: if you want the subtle edge of a small amount rather than a trip, look at microdosing with truffles or our microdosing truffles.

Magic truffles in a calm setting

Always start low. You can take more later, but you cannot take less. Not sure? Then pick a milder strain: the margin between too little and too much is wider, so a small misjudgement matters less. And give a truffle time to come up fully before you consider taking more; that easily takes three quarters of an hour. Planning to trip with others? Read our tips on the right setting first.

Frequently asked questions about magic truffle strength

What is the strongest magic truffle?

In our range the High Hawaiians is the most powerful, followed by strains such as Dragon's Dynamite. How strong a truffle actually feels depends on the strain, the harvest and the amount you take. The strongest strains are meant for experienced users.

Which truffle is best for a first time?

Start with a gentle strain such as Mexicana or Atlantis, and keep the amount modest. That way you clearly notice what truffles do without it overwhelming you. A calm setting and plenty of time matter just as much as the choice of strain.

Are stronger truffles more dangerous?

The difference is in the intensity, not in anything dangerous about the truffle itself. A stronger strain works more powerfully, so a session can become overwhelming sooner if you take too much or have little experience. The risk lies mainly in taking too much with little experience. So the golden rule stands: start low, and pick a strain that matches what you are used to.

How do I know how strong a truffle is?

Strength differs by strain and shifts slightly per harvest. Each product page carries a strength indication so you can compare strains properly. Keep in mind that dried truffles are stronger per gram than fresh ones.

Are fresh and dried truffles equally strong?

Not per gram. Fresh truffles still contain water, which makes them feel milder than the same amount of dried truffles. We sell fresh truffles, so factor that in when comparing amounts.

What is the difference between the classic and the Next Level truffles?

Both ranges run from gentle to strong. The Next Level truffles are our own house brand, with a range of their own from Mexicana and Atlantis through to Nirvana and Shambhala. In both cases, pick the strain whose strength fits you.

Is it better to dose a strong strain low or a mild strain normally?

For control, a mild strain is often more comfortable: the margin between too little and too much is wider, so a small misjudgement matters less. Dosing a strong strain low works too, but calls for more precise weighing. For a first time, a gentle strain is therefore the safest choice.
