What is the difference between a tincture and an extract?

A tincture is a liquid plant extract where active compounds are dissolved in alcohol (ethanol) or glycerine. An extract can also be offered in dry form (powder) after evaporation of the solvent. Tinctures offer faster absorption through the oral mucosa, while dry extracts have a longer shelf life.

How do I use a tincture?

Drop the recommended amount sublingually (under your tongue) and hold for 30–60 seconds for optimal absorption through the mucous membrane. Sublingual intake is more effective than mixing into a drink as it bypasses digestion. Always start with a low dose and increase gradually. The exact dosage is listed on the product label.

How do I store tinctures?

Store tinctures in the dark glass bottle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. The dark glass protects the active compounds from UV degradation. Alcohol-based tinctures keep for up to 2 years; glycerine tinctures have a shorter shelf life of 6–12 months.
