Magic truffles aren't actually truffles but sclerotia: compact, hard formations of fungal tissue (mycelium) that serve as food reserves. They develop underground from the same organism as magic mushrooms - Psilocybe species - and contain the same psychoactive compounds: psilocybin and psilocin. The major advantage of truffles is they're easier to store than mushrooms and have a longer shelf life.

Use and Dosage

What Are Magic Truffles?
Magic truffles, despite their name, aren't actual truffles but sclerotia: compact formations of hardened mycelium (fungal tissue) that store food reserves. This allows them to survive extreme conditions. These formations develop from the mycelium of Psilocybe mushrooms. In controlled growing conditions, specific environmental factors cause these sclerotia to develop underground.
Both magic mushrooms and magic truffles are parts of the same organism and both produce the psychoactive compounds psilocybin and psilocin. The difference is that mushrooms are the fruiting bodies that grow above ground, while truffles are the underground food reserves. For the user this makes little practical difference - both contain the same active compounds and produce comparable effects.
