Anadenanthera Peregrina Ceremonial Seeds

Yopo seeds come from the Anadenanthera peregrina tree in South America. Indigenous tribes in the Amazon region have used these seeds for centuries in shamanic ceremonies. The seeds contain DMT and bufotenine, two powerful psychedelic substances.

Traditionally, the seeds are roasted, ground to powder, mixed with lime, and used as snuff powder. This is not a recreational substance but a sacrament in spiritual rituals. The experience is intense and brief - usually 20-60 minutes.

Key Features: Traditional shamanic substance. Contains DMT and bufotenine. South American origin. Intense but short experience. For spiritual purposes.

This product is only for very experienced users who thoroughly know the traditional preparation method. Lightly roast the seeds, grind them to fine powder, and mix with an alkaline substance. Use in a ceremonial context with respect for the tradition. Not for recreational use. The physical experience can be heavy. Inform yourself extensively before using this.

How are yopo seeds traditionally prepared for ceremonial use?

Traditional preparation involves three steps. First, the seeds are lightly roasted until the outer shell cracks and can be removed. Then the kernels are ground into a homogeneous powder. Finally, this powder is mixed with an alkaline substance, traditionally shell ash or banana peel ash, in a ratio of approximately 1:1. The alkaline addition is essential: it makes the DMT and bufotenine bioavailable for absorption through the nasal mucosa. Learn more about yopo seeds and their traditional use on our blog.

What is the difference between yopo and cebil seeds?

Yopo (Anadenanthera peregrina) and cebil (Anadenanthera colubrina) are closely related species with similar active compounds. The key difference lies in the ratios: yopo contains relatively more DMT, while cebil contains more bufotenine. This results in a slightly different experiential character. Yopo more frequently produces visual experiences, while cebil is described as more physical and emotional. Both are used as snuff powder after roasting and mixing with lime. Geographically, they occur in different regions: yopo primarily in the Caribbean and Amazon basin, cebil more in southern South America.

What physical side effects can you expect from yopo use?

Yopo is known for its intense physical side effects, especially during the first 10-15 minutes. Nausea and vomiting are common and are considered purifying in the traditional context. Intense pressure in the head, watering eyes, and a burning sensation in the nose are standard. Heart rate may temporarily increase. After this initial phase, a period of deep rest and introspection usually follows. Never use yopo alone: always ensure an experienced sitter is present. The heavy physical component makes this unsuitable for recreational use.
