Lion's mane zet de hersenen aan tot het aanmaken van meer NGF (zenuwgroeifactor of nerve growth factor). Deze neuropeptiden zorgen voor de productie, groei en het onderhoud van neuronen in de hersenen. Naarmate we ouder worden neemt de activiteit van de neuropeptiden af, wat leidt tot een verslechtering van de hersenfunctie. NGF helpt de hersenen vitaal en gezond te houden.

NGF zorgt ook voor de aanmaak van nieuwe myelinescheden. Een myelineschede is een beschermend laagje om de zenuwen dat de prikkelgeleiding tussen de cellen versnelt. Als deze scheden beschadigd zijn, zoals bij de ziekte van Alzheimer en de ziekte van Parkinson, verloopt deze prikkelgeleiding veel trager. Momenteel worden lion's mane en NGF gebruikt bij de ontwikkeling van behandelingen voor deze ziekten.
Lion's mane heeft ook neurotrofe eigenschappen. Dat houdt in dat het de groei en differentiatie van neuronen stimuleert. Neuronen spelen een belangrijke rol bij het leren en de ontwikkeling van de hersenen.

I needed a replacement for coffee and then I discovered this one :-) Lion's Mane, a beautiful mushroom that looks like the hair of a lion (in Dutch it is translated very funny into "pruikzwam"). This functional mushroom looks also like a brain and that is where it does it magic on. If you want to feel like a lion, sharp of mind, ready to attack, full of power, then this tincture/mushroom is the solution for you! After trying this tincture for a week, I felt more concentrated at work, was less distracted during the day and still I did not feel this "after buzz effect" like with coffee. So full on mushi power with some Simba strength! Everything went so smooth :-) Like Simba and his friends were singing: Hakuna Matata! What a wonderful phrase Hakuna Matata! Ain't no passing craze It means no worries for the rest of your days... :-)
