About Nani Kateyuve

Meet Nani Kateyuve, a Yawanawa elder who, at 58 years old, is one of the most esteemed spiritual leaders in his tribe. Known affectionately as Pai, or "father," Nani was among the first to be initiated into Yawanawa spirituality by pajé Yawarani, and as one of the oldest members of his community, he carries with him a wealth of ancient knowledge that has been passed down through generations.

One of Nani's particular areas of expertise is the Yawanawa language, which he has mastered over the years. As a respected pajé, he also facilitates "samakai" diets for both the Yawanawa people and spiritual seekers from all over the world. When he is not engaged in his spiritual work, Nani can usually be found in Yawarani village, a place that holds special meaning for him as it is named after his father-in-law and central teacher.

Nani is passionate about preserving Yawanawa traditional knowledge and keeping the Yawarani village an ecologically sustainable community. He dedicates much of his time to planting different species of trees and medicinal plants, showing his deep reverence for the forest that surrounds him. As a master of the Yawanawa language, he is also committed to passing on his knowledge to the youth of the Gregório Indigenous Land, where all Yawanawa villages are located, through an itinerant school that he has established.

Yawanawa Tribe

The Yawanawá inhabit the southern part of the Gregório River Indigenous Land and are currently led by Tashka and Laura Yawanawa, a couple that has worked hard to expand Yawanawa territory, reinvigorate Yawanawa culture, and establish economically and socially empowering relationships with the outside world. The whole community and their allies fight for their right to their land and try very hard to preserve their home, nature, and the forest. Yawanawa tribes live in harmony with the natural world, and they send a strong message to the outside world about the importance of preserving the forests and being in harmony with nature. The Yawanawa have a profound knowledge of their shamanic system kept by their initiates and shamans. The study of Yawanawa spirituality begins with prayers, diets, and intense initiation. Rapé has a central role in their culture as it is one of their main preparations for strength and power. By buying this rapé, you can support the tribes of the Yawanawa people.

Wrapping material

In our journey to create the most sustainable product possible, we ended up using glass bottles instead of the plastic variety. We strive to contribute as little as possible to the production of plastic (waste). We would like to ask everyone to keep the supplied Rapé jars. The jars are good to use for other purposes.
